1. What are the indications for Dorithricin® ?

Dorithricin®throat lozenges are indicated for the symptomatic treatment of infections of the oral cavity and pharynx that cause a sore throat and discomfort when swallowing.

Dorithricin®throat lozenges can be taken in every phase of pharyngitis. From the onset of a burning, scratchy sensation and/or tingling in the throat through discomfort when swallowing all the way to severe throat pain.

2. Can Dorithricin® throat lozenges also be taken for tonsillitis?

A sore throat and swallowing difficulties are among the typical symptoms of tonsillitis. To relieve these symptoms, Dorithricin® can be used as supportive therapy in consultation with the doctor.

The following principles applies:
Always visit your doctor if you have tonsillitis. He will decide about the necessary therapeutic options (e.g. use of antibiotics) and can tell you whether the supplementary use of Dorithricin® is recommendable in your case.

3. What active ingredients does Dorithricin® contain?

Dorithricin® contains a unique active ingredient formula:
The local analgesic benzocaine provides rapid and lasting pain relief. The two other active ingredients have a mutually synergistic effect: The focus is on the natural anti-infective tyrothricin, which has excellent antibacterial efficacy and thereby effectively targets bacterial pathogens. This effect is optimally supported by the local antiseptic benzalkonium chloride. Above and beyond this, tyrothricin has a pronounced antiviral effect in combination with the other active ingredients in Dorithricin® which target several virus strains known as “cold viruses”1.

In conclusion: Dorithricin® provides rapid and long-lasting relief from a sore throat, fights bacteria and viruses and slows down the infection – all while boasting good tolerability.

4. Can I expect a resistance to develop if I use the anti-infective tyrothricin?

9. Is Dorithricin® also suitable for children?

Dorithricin® is extremely well-tolerated and sugar-free, which means children can also benefit from treatment with Dorithricin® (as long as they are able to suck on lozenges without the risk of choking).

Tip
Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges with a wild-berry flavour are particularly suitable for young children with sore a throat.

10. Can Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges be taken during pregnancy or lactation?

Always ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicinal products during pregnancy or lactation. To date there is no evidence that Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges can harm an unborn child. Nevertheless, to be one the safe side, Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges should only be administered after consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

11. How are Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges taken?

Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, the usual dose is:
Allow 1-2 lozenges to dissolve slowly in the mouth several times daily, i.e. every 2-3 hours. The treatment should be continued for one more day after the symptoms have subsided.

12. What should I do if the symptoms do not improve despite taking Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges?

If your sore throat persists for more than 3 days or is accompanied by fever or shortness of breath, please contact a doctor. You are also advised to contact a doctor if your symptoms get worse.

13. How long has Dorithricin® been on the market?

Dorithricin® has been on the market since 1954. Many satisfied users pass on their recommendation to use Dorithricin® to alleviate a sore throat and swallowing difficulties from generation to generation. A proven throat medicine with a long tradition!

14. Is Dorithricin® available in different flavours?

Yes, Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges are available in two different flavours:

  • Dorithricin®Throat Lozenges Classic with a pleasant fresh minty flavour.
  • Dorithricin®Throat Lozenges Wild Berry with a delicious fruity forest berry flavour – ideal for children.
15. Does Dorithricin® come in different pack sizes?

Yes, Dorithricin® is supplied in pack sizes containing 20 lozenges and 40 lozenges.

16. Can Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges be used if I have purulent tonsillitis with fever?

If you are suffering from purulent tonsillitis with fever, it is always up to your doctor to decide whether Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges should be concomitantly administered to supplement the primary treatment measures, e.g. antibiotics.

17. When is special caution required when using Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges?
  • Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges should not be used in persons with fresh wounds in the mouth and throat.
  • You should ask a doctor for advice in the case of severe pharyngitis or a sore throat accompanied by high fever, headache, nausea or vomiting.
  • Patients with a tendency to hypersensitivity reactions of the skin (allergic contact dermatitis) should avoid taking Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges due to the potential for sensitisation.

This medicinal product contains the sugar substitute sorbitol. Please do not take Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges until after you have consulted your doctor if you know that are intolerant to certain types of sugar or sugar substitutes.

18. When is Dorithricin® contraindicated?

Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to tyrothricin, benzalkonium chloride, benzocaine, mint oil or to any of the other excipients in Dorithricin® Throat Lozenges.

19. Is Dorithricin® suitable for diabetics?

Yes, diabetics can also take Dorithricin®. The sugar substitute sorbitol contained in 1 throat lozenge is equivalent to approx. 0.07 bread units (BE).

20. For athletes: Can Dorithricin® affect the result of doping tests?

No, Dorithricin® is not on any doping list and does not affect doping tests either.
